Successful Bid for Anglesey Freeport
We are delighted that Anglesey’s bid to be designated as a Freeport has been successful.
The Anglesey Freeport bid was developed jointly by Isle of Anglesey County Council and Stena Line. The proposals will bring up to 13,000 new jobs and a £1bn boost to the Anglesey economy by attracting investment in a range of low-carbon energy projects through tax and customs benefits. It will boost trade by encouraging hauliers to use the “land-bridge” from Holyhead to Dover – the fastest route between Ireland and the European continent – and take advantage of a range of regulatory simplifications to boost trade, innovation and manufacturing around the port.
The decision unlocks up to £26m of funding to develop the proposals including investment in site preparation, infrastructure and supporting inward investment in key sites across the island.
