Secretary of State confirms Westfield and Hammerson’s CPO in Croydon Town Centre
The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark MP, has issued his decision to confirm the compulsory purchase order (CPO) which brings together the land required for the £1.3 billion Westfield/Hammerson JV redevelopment of Croydon town centre.
The CPO inquiry took place over 7 weeks in February and March 2015 during which John Rhodes gave evidence. Yesterday’s announcement follows an anxious wait whilst the Inspector completed his report and, subsequently, whilst the Secretary of State then reviewed that report.
The decision allows the developers to progress the scheme through to delivery to provide a comprehensive retail-led mixed use development which includes leisure, office, community and residential elements, together with enhanced public realm and infrastructure improvements.
Quod have been advising Westfield and Hammerson since 2012 and have been leading on all planning matters related to the proposed redevelopment of the existing Whitgift Centre and surrounding land. Following obtaining outline planning consent for the development in 2014, Quod is now engaged on all matters relating to the scheme implementation and delivery.
