Redevelopment of former prison will bring transformational change to Northallerton
Quod North has secured planning and listed building consent for comprehensive regeneration of the site of the former Northallerton prison, which hosts five Grade II listed buildings.
The scheme will deliver a mix of retail (food and non-food), offices, restaurants, cinema, new housing, and a new civic square through a combination of new-build and sensitive conversion and extension of retained buildings.
Through effective pre-application engagement with the Council and other stakeholders Quod were able to secure consent for a market-facing scheme which will renovate, repair and sensitively convert the original prison buildings and bring vacant heritage assets back into active and beneficial use.
The proposals will deliver new retail and leisure in Northallerton, forming a logical extension to its existing centre and improving the existing offer in the town, providing greater choice for residents and reduce the need to travel to other locations to meet retail and leisure needs.
