Quod win RTPI London Football Tournament 2015
On Friday 17th July Quod entered the annual RTPI sponsored 5-aside football tournament. Pitched in a high class group stage consisting the likes of the RTPI themselves and LB Camden, Quod eased through winning all four of their games and it was clear momentum was building.
The quarter final drew Quod against the CPRE (The Campaign to Protect Rural England) and in what turned out to be a surprisingly feisty encounter, Quod progressed following a 5-1 victory, with Issy Fateh rounding off the scoring.
Next up, the semi-final, and a clash that had the whole planning world hooked in anticipation: Quod vs DP9… The game started fairly comfortably enough for Quod who leapt into a 2 goal lead, however DP9 started to come back into the game and it took a series of heroic stops from Adrian Fox to maintain the 2 goal cushion until the award of a highly dubious penalty that Fox could do nothing about. Quod however kept their heads and after a penalty of their own, went through 3-1 with several spectators commenting this was the game of the tournament.
Onto the final and it was Quod against GVA to see who would take home the famous RTPI trophy. People were anticipating a tight game with a single goal expected to separate the teams, however after racing into a 2-0 lead Quod began to play what can only be described as ‘champagne football’ and ran out eventual 6-0 winners.
Andy Hunt, the most experienced member of the Quod squad, collected the trophy and the celebrations could begin in earnest for both players and fans alike, a truly momentous effort from all involved.
