Major New Addition to Leeds' Skyline
Quod’s Leeds office, acting on behalf of London & Scottish Student Housing (LSSH), secured planning consent in December for a 23 storey building in central Leeds. Quod project managed the planning aspects of the scheme from its initial inception, through to a successful planning consent in less than nine months, enabling LSSH to begin delivery of the new building for the 2019/2020 academic year.
The building will house circa 350 students when it opens, and provides a range of studio and cluster apartments.
One of the key planning issues related to the appropriateness of the proposed student accommodation in an area which had recently seen a major growth in student population. The architecture and visual impact associated with a tall building was also highly sensitive, given the site is located next to the City Centre Conservation Area, and a Grade I Listed Church, and other nearby Listed buildings.
Working closely with Leeds City Council’s officers, ensured the client obtained the relevant planning and demolition consents within a very short timeframe.
