Embracing Innovation – Transforming the EIA process with IEMA
On the 25th of March, the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) launched the Digital Impact Assessment (IA) Primer, a key milestone in the environment and sustainability profession’s digital journey and the first published guidance on Digital Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). ‘Embracing innovation and digital’ is one of IEMA’s four strategic themes of action for proportionate EIA, and a growing number of EIA practitioners are seeking to implement innovation and digital working in practice. Quod were core partners in this collaborative publication that assesses the current opportunities and barriers for potential transformation of the sector in a digital capacity.
The Primer will be supported by a set of principles and the next IEMA Journal that is due for publication in a couple of weeks’ time that will focus on examples in practice. It is currently envisaged that these reports will be further developed to lead into a White Paper or similar to influence future changes in legislation. To view the primer click here.
The publication comes at a time that Quod has recently completed a pilot project by the Connected Places Catapult, which has been investigating innovative ways of assisting the EIA sector to transition to digital working practices, for more information click here. A summary of this project will also be provided in the upcoming IEMA journal.
